Whereas the MBA/STRATMOR Peer Groups are geared towards financial executives, Focus Groups are designed to meet the needs of senior executives running other business units. We have found that most such executives are hungry for information about how other companies are responding to common problems and challenges. They are therefore willing to share information with their peers as a quid pro quo for hearing about what their peers are doing.
Currently, STRATMOR Group sponsors distinct Focus Groups for senior IT and Direct Lending executives. These groups --- which typically involve 12-15 executives --- meet once or twice a year, with meeting sessions generally extending over a day and a half. While Focus Group meetings make use of relevant Peer Group data, the agendas generally "focus" on key business topics or issues specific to the business unit involved. For example, a typical discussion at the Direct Lending Focus Group might involve recent strategies and tactics employed by participating lenders for generating high quality leads and improving the conversion of leads to applications. For IT, a typical agenda topic might be the use and impact of smart phones or tablet computers on the loan origination process; or, how to better engage senior channel executives in articulating the business requirements that should be the drivers for IT development efforts.
