STRATMOR Group and the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) have conducted the Peer Group Benchmarking Roundtable Program since 1998. This Program first collects (via the Web) and analyzes comprehensive origination and servicing performance data from participating lenders. This is done once or twice a year, depending upon the particular Peer Group to which a lender is assigned.
Currently, the Program operates three distinct Peer Groups that currently serve approximately sixty participating lenders:
- Peer Group D: Mega and Large Lender-Servicers
- Peer Group B: Mid-size Bank Lender-Servicers
- Peer Group I: Mid-size Independent Lender-Servicers
For each data collection cycle, once performance data has been analyzed, participating lenders will attend a meeting of their peers --- typically a one and a half day meeting --- at which they review and discuss financial and operating results and individual lender marketing, sales and operating practices as they might explain differences in performance. In combination, the meeting sessions and the informal social gatherings surrounding each meeting promote candid discussions and ongoing professional relationships that participants have found to be very valuable.
For each data cycle, participating Peer Group lenders are provided with a variety of presentation materials and reports. Most significantly, leach ender receives a "Peer Group Data Book" in both in hard copy and Excel format containing detailed operating and performance data for the lenders in their Peer Group broken down by production channel, servicing, back room and administrative functions.
The figure below, for example, presents the Table of Contents for the full-year 2009 Data Book for the Independent Lender Peer Group (Group I).

The next figure below presents just a small portion of the Revenue data in the 2009 Data Book for the Retail Channel of Peer Group I lenders. Not only is the data highly detailed, but it has been collected under a set of data definitions and standards that have been refined with lenders over more than a decade, resulting in data that is both accurate and consistent across all lenders.
At the end of each data cycle, participating lenders also receive a Summary Data Book which contains detailed benchmarking data aggregated by Peer Group. Peer Group members can also access Peer Group data, meeting schedules, program news and more at the program web site located at
