Most lenders and mortgage industry service providers will at various times want to get hold of specific market data or research for which there are no satisfactory "off-the-shelf" answers or solutions. To meet these needs generally requires "primary" market research based on surveys, interviews or some combination of the two.
An effective survey requires clear and carefully framed questions --- questions that get at the information desired; and, because STRATMOR is so steeped in the mortgage industry, we are especially good at survey design. But a good response rate is equally or perhaps even more important. Obviously, a low response rate can undermine the statistical reliability of quantitative results and limit the power of any inferences that can be drawn from qualitative answers and comments.
Over the past decade, STRATMOR has been highly successful in conducting proprietary surveys for both lenders and industry service providers. This success is largely a result of an approach whereby, in exchange for their participation, survey respondents are provided with a summary of "basic" survey results and analyses; and the survey sponsor gets much more in-depth results and analyses.Where a survey sponsor is willing to share some survey results with respondents, our experience has been that very favorable response rates are achieved.
The relatively high response rates we have achieved also reflect our use of Web-based survey tools that make it easy for respondents to quickly complete and submit a survey. These Web-based tools also facilitate the production of sophisticated surveys, the solicitation of respondents and the analysis and graphic presentation of results. This has enabled us to price even complex surveys at affordable levels.
